Poetry Manifesto ( New & Selected Poems ) written by Vihang A. Naik opens a vista of newer thoughts for the readers through his succinct and thought provoking poems. His expressions give an inkling that his poetry aims at exhibiting somewhat unconventional trends in contemporary poetry , though at times in his lighter vein. This characteristic may be found in the poem "New Websight". His brevity of thoughts is found through the revelations he made using the terms of "Third Eye" . He has depicted a unique phenomenon that despite using IT terms and meddling with terms like "search...lost in internet", 'can love be programmed' ( he questions )and 'Run anti-virus, and yet again 'search...Third eye in the world wide web' and final result 'site not found' what an idea. A well thought poem it is .
The scenario in summer in India is well known to one and all . The scorching heat, peoples' efforts to beat the heat are obvious phenomena of he summer season. The poet has in his brief description presented the lively depiction of 'Indian Summer' through 'the city, lost in a mirage' , 'roasting season' ...of 'flesh and book', and the boiling sun does not leave any chance of relief from the heart ...and , at last 'you dream of rain and thunder'. The poem suggests poet's stupendously splendid imagery in this poem.
In the poem 'The Banyan City' the poet provides a ruminating narration about the phenomenon witnessed by a 'banyan tree' which the poet has very truly mentioned that 'the old banyan / with the roots spread over a century' and in its life time watched the 'aged city'....'weather beaten' and 'stood the time' with 'heavy breath' ...but the city keeps on moving with its occurences despite 'mumbles' . the poet exhibits his dexterity of making subtle narrations of life in a city .....
It may be seen that the revelation made by the poet indicate his fine craftsmanship of depicting good co-ordination of thoughts and imagination.,...
Glancing through the following pages one finds poet's fine spells of skepticism different classifications to make the 'Manifesto' a document of poet's avid observation and expressions leaving behind indelible impressions of ruminations about varying aspects of life.
...
In the poem 'Making of a Poet' Mr. Naik finely meddles with imagination and presents inferences through suggestions and queries to see their outcome of 'how poetry makes a poet'.
Poet's expressions enhance readers veneration from him for his artistic skills to ornate his philosophy with simple but revealing and most appealing thinking about what the poet intends to convey . In the poem 'In Rains' he observes :
'A girl folds her / newspaper into a boat / and makes it float / over flooded waters / a poem sails / Above road level / with yesterday's flood report' ..
If one stretches one's imagination further a poem also shows its presence in smile of girl's little face. Well, poet's imagination should not he intervened..
It is seen in other poems also that they are ornate with universal truths and fascinating thoughts which inspire poetic vision in the reader and enhance his interest in poet's brimming thoughts.
He has done very well to provide new manifestations to his poems in the book. The poems in the book also make the reader going deep into poet's skepticism and his thoughtfulness.
The book and its contents enormously suggest that for all the strenuous effort put in by the poet to make his poems beaming with his thoughtful and meaningful communications deserves all accolades of laudations. For an excellent get - up and production of the book the publishers also have their share of appreciation to make the book a pride possession for the lovers of poetry .
